What this policy covers
This policy covers the 8Rings Pounds iPhone app, developed by OctiCorp. It describes the current app, including prerelease testing. Last updated: September 19, 2026.
Weight entries and preferences
Pounds stores your weight, entry date and time, entry source (manual, scale scan, or voice), and scan confidence when available in its on-device database. Unit choice, onboarding status, reminder settings, and the number of free entries used are saved in local preferences. Pounds does not send these records to OctiCorp. It does not require an account or integrate with Apple Health.
Camera and selected photos
Camera access is optional and used only when you choose to photograph a scale. You can also choose a photo through Apple’s photo picker. Apple Vision recognizes the display on your device; Pounds does not upload photos for recognition. The app holds the selected image while you review a check-in, but does not save the image in its weight-entry database. Any original photo in your photo library remains subject to your Photos and iCloud settings.
Optional voice weight logging
In New check-in, you can choose Record your weight. Pounds requests Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions only after you tap Record weight on the voice check-in screen. Recognition supports English and runs only on your iPhone, with no server fallback. If on-device recognition is unavailable, you can type your weight or scan your scale instead.
Recording stops after at most 20 seconds, or sooner when you stop or cancel it. Audio buffers and the transcript are held only in memory; Pounds never saves or uploads them. The transcript is cleared when you leave the voice check-in screen. You review the transcript and tap Use this weight, then confirm or edit the entry before Save. Only the confirmed weight entry and its voice source are stored in the local weight database, not the audio or transcript.
Voice logging is optional. You can revoke Microphone or Speech Recognition permission in iPhone Settings and continue using manual entry or scale photos.
Reminders
If you enable reminders and grant notification permission, Pounds schedules local notifications on your device. The app uses your reminder preferences and logged dates to plan them. Notification text does not include your weight. You can disable reminders in Pounds or revoke notification permission in iPhone Settings.
Purchases
Apple processes the optional lifetime purchase through the App Store. Pounds uses StoreKit to check verified purchase entitlement and restore purchases. OctiCorp does not receive your payment card details through Pounds. App Store purchase processing is governed by Apple’s privacy practices.
No advertising or tracking
Pounds includes no advertising, analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking. It does not operate an OctiCorp server for your weight entries or scale photos. Apple may process App Store transactions and device diagnostics according to your Apple settings and its own policies.
Storage, backups, and deletion
You can delete entries from History. Deleting the app removes its local app data; copies in device backups may remain according to your Apple backup settings. Pounds has no app-level cloud sync or account-based recovery. Restore purchases restores the lifetime entitlement, not weight records. Manage device backups through Apple’s settings.
Support and policy updates
If you email support, OctiCorp receives the email address and any information you choose to include so we can respond. Avoid sending weight records or photos unless you want to share them. For privacy questions, contact support@octicorp.com. Updates to this policy will appear here with a revised date.
